Have you ever fell in the Mississippi River? FALLEN, AND CUT
How do you hold a fork? MORE LIKE THIS (ROLL TONGUE? FOLD ARMS/HANDS (WHICH THUMB UP)? ETC.
What makes you tick? VERY BROAD
What happened the year you were born? UNLIKELY QUESTION
What is your favorite font? MORE LIKE THIS
Why are you interviewing yourself? CUT
What can you do? BROAD
What can’t you do? BROAD
What’s your favorite word? (radical…which is why I’ll never be a writer.) RADICAL HAS ITS “ISLAMIC RADICALS” USAGE TOO.
Why are you so pretentious? CUT
Is this a hypothetical interview? CUT
Whadda you wanna do with your life? SPELL OUT. BROAD.
Compare design to writing. WHY? MAKE INTO A QUESTION, OR JUST DO THIS IN YOUR ANSWER.
What would this interview look like if it were a poster? UM. WHY?
Does design help you forget the fact that you really want to be a writer? DO YOU?
Why do you choose to design? (backwards handicapped sign) SAME AS OTHER QUESTION. AND, CAN’T HANDICAPPED PEOPLE GO LEFT TOO? (I TOTALLY KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!)
Do you fear failure? Death? BROAD
What is design? FIRST Q. IN “DESIGN” SECTION.
Do you ever copy? (no. never.) RETHINK THIS. COMPLICATE IT.
What are you the product of? (do it now, do it quickly.) C.S. LEWIS: “I am the product of long corridors, empty sunlit rooms, upstairs indoor silences, attics explored in solitude, distant noises of gurgling cisterns and pipes, and the noise of wind under the tiles. Also, of endless books.”
The rest are mostly good. You really need to organize your questions into categories, and group the broad/general questions and the philosophical quesitons and the design questions and the fact questions and … So you’re not jumping everywhere.
Also, my current feeling is that you shouldn’t try to be too cute/funny in these sorts of things. Or, if you ever expect a potential employer to see this, then be professional about it. More of the serious stuff, less of the quirky stuff.
For what it’s worth, I was a pretty bad writer when I was your age. Not saying I’m much of one now, but compared to me back then, I’m completely different. I guess I was a good enough writer to get by in school with good grades, but I didn’t really understand writing as I do now. I hope I’ll keep improving. So if you want to write, just do it a lot and you’ll get better. Also read a lot.
