Month Names

Holy moley! Add this to the collection of things that have been around you all your life, but which you never noticed (see the Lady Madonna entry): I was just making images for our calendar headers (over there, top right of page), going through the “-ember” months, and noticed, for the first time, after thirty-two years on this planet, that they’re numbered. September (7), October (8), November (9), December (10). Now the question is, why? Obviously these are two off from the current calendar, and I thought people used to begin the new year April 1 (thus the origin of April Fools Day), which would still make the months one off (but the other direction). This gets one thinking about all the months and their meanings and histories. Here are a few web sites with information.
