Where’s Bill Watterson?
Bill Watterson is the Beatles, the Michael Jordan of cartoons. He was the greatest ever, he was wildly popular but unyielding in his excellence, and he retired at the top. Unlike Jordan, he didn’t return, and unlike the Beatles, he didn’t embark on a solo career that, though it produced some good songs, paled in comparison to the group work. He has apparently pulled a J. D. Salinger, disappearing from the public eye completely, refusing interviews, refusing to draw again, and burning even the paintings he does. Meanwhile, people look to his return like Elvis fans or Doors fans or Tupac fans or Andy Kauffman fans, who insist that their heroes are not really dead, they’re just in hiding, regrouping, preparing their armies for the final conquest. How do I know this about Bill Watterson? I read an article on CleveScene.com.
That said, man, I really do miss Watterson. But I think he did the right thing in retiring. You can read and reread his comics (in the various collection books) and be amazed again and again, just like you can listen to Beatles songs ad infinitum.

Dad • 12/06/03 • 9:42 PM:I’ve seen the urinating kid decal, and thought it was in bad taste, not funny, reflected badly on the owner of the vehical, and was poorly drawn and extremely annoying; but I never realized until now that it was supposed to be Calvin. Now I’m really pissed!
