Test Entry

Once again, I’ve fallen victim to Safari’s bug where it replaces your entry body text with the comment you’ve just deleted. Ah well. Good thing it’s only on this test entry. Dan, beware!

This is just to show what a comment looks like. This will be a short comment. I didn’t fix that hack capability.

This will be a long comment. A Lorem-ipsum kind of comment.

Tantum ergo sacramentum. Caveat emptor.

This is another test comment, to see whether I can force capitalization of the Name field with CSS’s text-transform: capitalize.

Kathleen • 12/14/03 12:08 PM:

Someone please explain what all the Latinesque writing is. Do you guys hit a key and all that comes tumbling out, or do you write in another language? If so, what is it?

Patrick • 12/15/03 10:39 AM:

This site will explain that Latinesque text better than I can. Basically, it’s placeholder text, meant not to distract, and it has a long tradition in typography, and something like it appears in Cicero’s “The Extremes of Good and Evil.” You can’t read the text, so you see it as a block without meaning. Granted, you may wonder what the heck it is, in which case it is distracting, but for the most part, you just ignore it.

Patrick • 01/08/04 10:36 AM:

This test entry has served us well, so I am loath to kill it off completely, especially now that Kathleen has asked about the Latinesque writing in it and I have answered her. Let it remain, convalesce, as it were, perhaps to be called upon in the future to serve us again.

Dad • 08/09/06 9:04 PM:

Indeed, this “test entry” does serve us again. I was amused that the back cover of John Stewart’s book America contains this very quote from Cicero.
