Shake up the world.
There’s these new commercials for Linux/IBM and Adidas featuring Muhammad Ali.
Linux shows young Ali highlights of him yelling “I shook up the world! I shook up the world!” after a championship bout, and then himself nowadays sitting in front of the Linux kid (little Eminem?) telling him to shake up the world.
Adidas shows young Ali jogging down a deserted, country highway, but asking people to follow him. Then you see a bunch of athletes (6 or so, I can only make out Tracy McGrady) running behind him. Tthe slogan “Impossible is nothing” shows up on the screen and then the Adidas logo.
Here’s what I’d like to see: Commercial break, TV shows Muhammad Ali jogging down a deserted country road, no music, just him jogging to his old post-bout shouts about shaking up the world. 30 seconds of this, it ends.

Dan • 02/02/06 • 7:25 PM:I don’t recall ever learning about Muhammad Ali in school or elsewhere, I guess I’ve seen some TV programs about him, and still I have some innate obligation to to respect who he is, what he accomplished, and what he stands for, even if I don’t understand why. And I’m pretty sure I’m right to feel this way. Typos and all, this personal story about Ali’s impact on one man is all I need to know how right I am.
