Beach Volleyball
It’s been a while since I’ve done this, but today I went to Belmar to watch some beach volleyball. Kate may also tell you about this, but it may not reach the website. It was supposed to be a bad storm day, but it turned out beautiful. Tonight it’s going to rain and thunder.
Kate and Jean won their first qualifying match, but lost the second to the number one seed. After that, we hit the surf for a while (I didn’t want towaste the beach pass I had to buy) had some lunch, and watched AJ and his new partner (they met today) beat up on a couple other teams. I got some color on my white spots (all but ruining my “farmer tan”) and really enjoyed the water, which almost gave me “brain freeze.”
On the way home, I decided to take the long way and see if I could find Ft. Monmouth, where I was stationed when I met mom. It took a while because I didn’t remember quite where it was, but I did find it and generate a few memory pangs.
Kate plays again on Saturday, so mom and I will probably head down to the shore again. (I suppose “shore” should be capitalized, huh?)

Dad • 07/09/04 • 4:49 PM:Oddly, I didn’t get water breath, although the conditions could have brought it on. Yes, I was kidding with “brain freeze,” kind of.
Dad • 07/10/04 • 10:12 AM:I forgot to say that, as I was leaving the beach, AJ asked me if I was related to John Madden. I told him he was my father.
Dad • 07/10/04 • 10:15 AM:Oh, and the memory pangs were mostly of me leading the platoon in morning calisthenics outside the barracks.
Patrick • 07/13/04 • 12:19 AM:Actually, “Mom” should be capitalized. I don’t know about Shore.
