New Hosting, New Software Version

The blog is back, and is functional, but I am ironing out some of the kinks. I switched from our old host (Frognet) to our new host (Total Choice Hosting), and also updated our Movable Type software from versioni 2.661 to version 3.15. The good news is that the data made it seamlessly. I just have to clean up some things. For instance, instead of the whole blog being in a “/blog/” folder, it is now just on the top-level of the domain. I’ve also changed where individual entries are archived, because the way I was doing it before could lead to entries with the same (or similar) titles in the same category overwriting each other (which happened at least once, with two of my entries; you could only access the more recent one). This will break some links, but we can fix those. I will explain more in the next little while, but I’m quite overwhelmed by work lately, so you may have to just get by with a functional site. Feel free to post entries and comments (by the way, I’ve set it up so comments have to be approved, for now, to help cut back on comment spamming; more explanation later, and I think there’s a way to “register” so that our comments go right through) and keep the blog going actively even in this transition time.

I like the new look. Assume you will eventually put back the searching capability and the author, category, date sorting? Don’t understand your comment “approval” thing, but maybe I will when I post this one.

This is a test comment. I want to check how this system works. Move along. Nothing to see here.
