Locks

I just watched another movie in which somebody “picked” a lock to gain entry into a house they were interested in. It seems like most movies have at least one scene in which somebody picks a lock. Not only that, I believe more “good guys” pick locks “justifiably” than do the bad guys. My question is, is it really that easy?

It never takes more than about 2 seconds, and the tool or tools used look like nothing more than thin screwdriver type thingies. Makes you wonder why we lock anything. First, any “trained” criminal can get in in 2 seconds, and second, more often than not, it’s a good guy with a perfectly defensible reason.

So how is it done? Here on How Stuff Works is one explanation. Here’s another site for “beginners.” This is lockpicking 101. For you Wikipedia buffs, here’s an article that you may be able to improve.

I didn’t read all the information or go get the tools, but I’m thinking maybe I will. That way I won’t have to carry around any keys.
