Our shared wealth

Take a look at this site, formerly operated by the Tomales Bay Institute, which changed its name to “On the commons.”

I wrote a great entry on it, but inadvertently deleted it before saving it. (Got all the way to the preview screen, but after clicking on the link to see if it opened, I forgot that it opened up in the same tab and xed out of it instead of hitting the back button.) I had one line in there asking, “Why are all the corporations laughing all the way to the bank (where all the bankers are laughing their assets off)?” I thought that was pretty clever.

I’ve not fully bought into this organization, but I’m intrigued by their ideas, many of which have crossed my mind before, each a case of “independent redundancy” in Patrick’s parlance. The only reason I’ve found so far (well, in the last 20 minutes) to besmirch their image is the fact that they may have started in Marin County, CA. Nonetheless, I’ve decided to cut them some slack, since I know from personal experience that not all Californians are crazy.
